Mahogany CARES will help you get in touch with someone who cares. We provide a wide range of resources and services for people who need it the most: crisis victims who are going through trauma. Our community partners and dedicated professional staff are thoroughly trained to help you and your loved ones deal with, and overcome, the effects of trauma. Whether you were affected today, a week ago, or decades ago, our assistance is always available.

What is a Survior?

A survivor is a person who survives, especially a person remaining alive after an event in which others have died or a person who continues to function or prosper in spite of opposition, hardship, or setbacks.

What is Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence  is a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship.  These intimate relationships range from a   spouse, partner, girl/boyfriend, teen, and    an adult family member.

Domestic  violence is not just physical. It is also  emotional, sexual abuse, psychological, economical, mental and verbal.   It  affects  people from any race, gender,  economic status,  sexual orientation, education. age or religion. Victims can be married or dating.  The behaviors  of an abuser    include:  physical harm, threats, arouse fear, intimidation, isolation from friends and family and depriving  of financial assistance.

What are the Signs of Domestic Violence?

Domestic violence does not look the same in  every relationship but there are key  common signs. Those signs can include:

  • Demeaning and insulting
  • Jealous of your relationships with family and/or friends
  • Forced sex
  • Abuse of pets
  • Financial manipulation or exploitation
  • Intimidates with threats and weapons
  • Pressures you to take drugs and/or alcohol
  • Destroys property

Abuse is NEVER ok – You don’t have to keep your crisis a secret. We are here to help.

Survivor Recognition

Mahogany CARES loves survivors and it is  our goal to  celebrate and recognize them so they know how much they are appreciated. We have events   throughout the year to provide survivors with self care activities and the opportunity to network with other survivors and women in the community. Please   keep an eye on our monthly events for survivor  recognition events!
